= Sir, I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to inform you that, an area of about 15 acres being required on Stonecutter's Island, Hong Kong, for the erection of barracks for the Royal Garrison Artillery, the question of land required for military buildings on that Island has been the subject of corres- pondence between the military authorities and the Colonial Secretary at Hong Kong.
With regard to the rights of the War Depart- ment over the land of the Island, it is considered that, in addition to the sites of the existing military buildings, which can only be regarded as Colonial Military Land, the areas which immediately surround the batteries on the Island and are necessary for their efficient working should also be regarded as coming under the same category.
It would also appear that the Colonial Government has previously taken the view that the whole Island Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.
